My cousin is pregnant with her first child. She comes and visits me almost everyday because I have 8 mth old twins that she adores. She always comes with something someone told her she shouldn't do while pregnant.
Today she told me her grandmother told her not to eat hot food because it would make her baby blind. How absurd is that!? Do you know of any ridiculous old wives tales about what not to do while pregnant?

i heard if you reach your arms up to get somethign that the umbelical cord will wrap around the babies neck!! so absurd

I love these old wives tales, this one is almost too funny, you have to wonder about people....... A friend of mine was pregnant with her first and she was a little bitty thing and at 8 months was still able to wear a bikini(she was all baby belly!!) her mom told her to put sun glasses on her belly so the baby"s eyes would not be affected by the sun, and crazy As it sounds, she actually did it, what a hoot, none of us could tell her how funny she looked, she did this for 2 weeks before someone clued her him. What a hoot!!!

There are many. The one that I heard the most was "don't lift your arms above your head because it will wrap the cord around the babies throat" Then there was " don't cut your hair while your pregnant because it will cause your baby to be bald" All three of my children were born with a headful of hair and I had mine cut every time.

I know something is true - Argumentative parents tend to have disrespectful child, especially when a father tends to quarrel or hits the pregnant mother. The Child's psychology can be affected very easily.

I am not sure of any wives tales...
I do know that cat litter can propose a REMOTE (slight) cause for alarm, so let the husbands do this, but other than that....
she should be just fine.

Once she eats the food, it will cool down to her body temperature before it ever gets out of her stomach. There is no way it could harm a fetus. Maybe burn the mother's mouth though.

Yes Actulally a doctor told a friend of mine if she eats spicy food's her baby will come out with red spots.

one of our family friends little sisters thought that taking a bath while she was pregnant (she was about 7 months preg at the time) would drown her baby! (that the baby breathed thru the mothers skin!)
I was also about 6 months preg at the time I looked at her and said are you joking and she said no its what her nurse had told her. (more like her idiot mom)
I looked at her plainly and said well thats too bad cause your baby lives in water from the time its concived till you have it and its sealed off in there in that water until your "water" breaks
she steped back and was like ohhh thats why they told me to watch for my "water" to break. that makes more since now.
DUUHHH!
(this girl is so stupid she thought french kissing got her pregnant!)
(I told her no but it lead to what got you pregnant!)

yeah taking baths every doctor has said taking a bath is fine as long as your body temp doesn't get too high but any normal person would know not to take a scalding bath and stay in it forever.
