I have a NetCenter server/hard drive on my network. Does anyone know how I can connect to my D-Link router to get into my Western Digital NetCenter while I am away from home through the net?

I believe you would need two things. First, your home network / router would need to be assigned a static IP address by your ISP so that it stays at the same connection address. Second, you will need to open the appropriate ports on the router, used by the NetCenter, and forward them to the NetCenter server.

Alternatively, you might look into a personal edition of an over-the-internet remote access utility such as Webex. You would then setup your NetCenter server with a Webex agent that would be available for connection anywhere on the internet. Again, a static IP address may be required.

Try and get a static IP from your ISP. If you have a static IP you can set up a VPN connection. You can use other methods, but a VPN is the best option at this time. You may have to get a different router to do it though.

You could also setup some form of web access, but it would still be easier with a static IP.

You shouldn't enable file sharing over the internet, its way too risky and opens too many security risks.
