It entirely depends on how happy you are to see her.

If it was my mother-in-law, then I would give her water, but we don't have a champagne or wine type relationship. In fact, we have a great relationship if she doesn't come here at all. The longer the distance, the better we both like it. Works for us.

Most anything is appropriate for this type of celebration. It's customary to spend the canceled "arrival day" lounging in the TV room in your boxers with a sixpack and ESPN on the tube. Congrats man!

I'd go with a prime rib, medium rare, baked potato with real butter, asparagus tips with cheese sauce. and a fine merlot. A bowl home made strawberry ice cream for dessert.
