Nicely? That is difficult. I would start by telling them three (3) positive traits about themselves. They can be simple things like, "you answer the phone in a polite voice", "you have easy to read writing", or "you are very honest", etc. Pause, and then tell them your thesis for firing them explained in an outline format. If they protest your decision or question your interpretations then become more specific and be stern in explanation of your rationale. If they work in an office with multiple employees it's best to do your firing at the end of the day so the employee doesn't have to do the walk-of-shame.
You must know your argument inside and out, as your ability to calmly yet effectively communicate your message is the key to firing an employee humanely.

There is no "nice" way. There's "unpleasant" to "really sh!tty." Terminating an employee should take no more that three minutes. Do it privately, but come directly to the point, very briefly cite the reason, say that they are terminated, and hand them their check. DO NOT stay, or let them stay, to discuss matters. Wish them good luck and ask them to excuse you. Get up and hold the door if needs be. That's it.

The first time I fired someone, I CRIED. I think I'm too nice to be a supervisor. I didn't want to hurt anyone. It's best to do it in a tactful manner, but also be sure to give them the reason they are being fired. You have to "cover your butt" in case of lawsuits, so be sure there is a true reason to fire them. Check with your supervisor if possible.

Do you mean "fire an employee?" Give them a severance package and tell them to sign a statement confirming their resignation.

There's no nice way to do it. Just ensure them that they will be given thier severence pay within 72 hours of termination (California State Law). People can't be mad when they know moneys coming.

In maximum States ,there is an "at will" coverage with employers, that asserts they are able to hearth the worker for any reason, or no reason in any respect, and no requirement to tell the worker the explanation...........your determination is to bypass to artwork ill, or stay abode and doubtless lose your activity; no longer an trouble-free determination, sorry ;[

Over arsenic laced coffee in the community break room. Tell them they're being promoted in front of everyone, and then ditch the scene before they croak.

Right to the point. Owing to a downturn in the economy, steps have to be taken to protect the company.
That, sadly, means you are being let go
