you have a bad pulley somewhere. With the belt off spin all pulleys except the crank and all should spin freely. If something doesn't spin then you need to replace it. Hopefully you will get lucky and it will just be the tensioner or idler pulley.

If you have a Serpentine belt then you should check the tensioner pulley, maybe it has a bad spring in it and is putting too much tension on the belt. or check the alternator pulley for a sharp edge that would be cutting the belt.

Could have a rough spot on the pully, like a spur and it chews the belts up. Had that problem on my truck, must have gon thru 20 belts before they figured that out.

it probably got old and worn out,,they do break ,,when they get older,,and get cracks in them,,its probably just normal wear,,if it starts breaking a belt every week,, then you have a problem,,sometimes when things happen to a vehicle,,it is just normal wear,,i would just fix it,,and not worry about it,,for now,,i own a repair shop,,and things like this are normal,,good luck with it,,i hope this help,s.

You might have an alignment problem, a bent pulley, or a bad tensioner.

You may have a problem with your alternator bearing locking up when it gets hot.
