My son says he hangs out with both boys and girls. chillin with his homies is alright but with girls. Hes handsome and straight. You can tell right away. He said he has more friends that are girls than boys. Would people think the wrong way if he hangs out with girls too. Hes 13 in middle school. Thanks.

It shouldn't matter who he hangs out with. Friends are friends as long as they aren't doing drugs, drinking alcohol or getting themselves into any kind of trouble, I don't see what the problem is.

When I was that age I hung out with both boys and girls and I grew up well adjusted, educated and have a good husband and job.

Surely you don't think that people are going to think that he's gay because he's hanging out with girls do you? Because if you do, that makes you sound pretty much homophobic and very naive.

Why wouldn't people think that he's a player than if he's handsome and has girls hanging around him?

I think you are worrying needlessly. Let your son have his friends and forget about what other people say. If he doesn't care, why should you.

Their his friends and as long as he's a good kid, that's all that matters. Whether he's straight or gay.

Now I have a questions for you. Does your son know that you are using his Yahoo! Answers account under his name, which is not permitted or are you actually the son?

If you are really his Mom and I kind of doubt is since I don't know many Mom's that use the term "chillin with his homies", and you don't have his permission to use his account, that is not cool and you should worry more about your infringement on your son;s rights then who he is chillin with!

I think that you & him are ok and I don't think that he will be stereotyped...My son is 11 and he is on the schools football & basketball team. He hit puberty at 9 and he is the size of an average 14 year old and on the honor roll...I know the girls call the house all the time, but I think that it is because girls mature faster then boys...who knows but I don't think that you have any fears.

No way. Its ok to have both boy and girl friends. I know lots of guys who have more girl friends than guy friends who are totally straight, and even more popular than those who only hang with boys all the time.

Why wouldn't it be alright for him to have "girl" friends too. Wait for a couple of years when he is looking for girlfriends and he doesn't have the problems the other guys are having because he already knows the girls. The guys will probably have a problem with that too.

He is at the age where girls are getting far more appealing to be around.

I think it is very healthy for kids, or adults, to have friends of either sex. It gives them a far more balanced view of people and the world in general.

My best friend in high school was a boy - neither of us were gay - and we both dated other people. However, we were great buddies.

Why not! I think it is great that he can be friends with the opposite sex. It will make him a better date to a girl in the future, I don't think anyone would thin any differnet of him, accpet maybe some jelousy on the part of other boys who may want to date his girl friends in the future!

There is nothing wrong with having friends of both sexes. As long as he is treating the girls with respect and as a girl then whats the big deal.

How is he going to be social around girls if you don't let him hang out with them? My son too has many girls as friends and I approve. At this age all they do is ride bikes or hang at my house and watch TV. Of course, you will want to watch how he interacts with these girls.. teens will keep you on your toes!
