No. Rush Limbaugh is either lying again or his memory has been damaged by drug abuse. (Or else he's talking about prices in Europe, and that would be weaseling, another Limbaugh tactic)

President Clinton believed that gasoline was the driving force behind our economy. He also believed that when there were large increases in cost from the oil producing nations of the world that we should open the oil reserves we have in this country and flood the market. President Clinton did this once during his term and it kept prices from rising rapidly. It caused OPEC to lower the price per barrel and brough the price back down here. President Bush clearly has many friends in big oil companies and believes that the current prices are good for big business. You can read in the paper that the oil companies have had the biggest profits in history and this is because President Bush will not fight them and get prices down. The simple answer is the prices were never this high when President Clinton was in office and he would have never allowed something like this to happen to the American people. President Bush obviously does not care about how hard this is on the average family because if he did prices would be coming down.

Rush Limbaugh is addicted to Oxycontin, a synthetic opiate with effects like Heroin. It creates delusions. It is from these drug induced delusions that Limbaugh gets his "facts" and his political philosophy. And his stupid gullible ignorant fans eat it like flies on sheet. Is it any wonder, with these drug induced delusions as the country's guiding political philosophy, that companies are getting tax breaks for sending jobs overseas, that there even is a war in Iraq given that they knew before they ever started it that Saddam Hussein posed no danger, that the country is a trillion dollars in debt to Communist China to finance tax cuts for billionaires, that the senior drug benefit law was written to prohibit Medicare from bargaining for lower prices (costing you, the taxpayer, $500 billion--absolutely needlessly!), and that New Orleans still lies in ruins as if America is a third world country that can't and won't take care of its citizens. Oh well, I guess there are a lot of shallow, easily convinced stupid fools out there. Limbaugh sells. A monument to stupidity.

Gas has never cost $5.00 per gallon in the US (unless being gouged during a hurricane). But if you adjust for inflation, the cost of gas in the late 70's was higher than today.

It's always cost that much in Europe. Of course you can drive from France to Russia in 30 hours though.
