Let x = the number of races Tori won.

18 = 2x-4
22 = 2x
x = 11

Tori ran 11. (11*2-4=18)

Actually, it appears to be a trick question.

A=18
2T - 4 = A
2T = A + 4 (add 4 to both sides)
2T = (18 + 4) substitute the known A=18 for A
2T = 22
T = 11
Tori won 11 races.

You put a twist on the question....not how many races did Tori run but how many did she win. There's no way to compute that.

18=2x-4 you add 4 on both sides 18+4=2x-4+4
-4 and +4 cancel each other out so it becomes zero.18+4= 22
22=2x you divide by 2 to get x by itself. 2÷2=1 1by x = x and 22÷2=11 so the answer is 11.

let Torri=x

18(anna)= 2x-4

subtract 4 from both sides

14=2x

divided 2 from both sides

x=7
