This normally occurs when cold or damp but not all the time. Mechanics have already cleaned the injectors, (twice) and replaced (most recently) the fuel pump saying their was a service bulleting about a problem with the fuel pump that would cause a similar problem. I don't drive the jeep all the time, and after a couple of weeks, the problem is starting to recur. Earlier when I had taken it to a mechanic to be checked, they had stated that it wasn't showing any codes on the computer to indicate what the problem was. The last time it did show something they replaced the fuel pump, and at that time the problem was more severe that it normally is.

After the engine warms up, normally the problem goes awa y. Can anyone out there help me?

Thanks for so many answers so fast. Just a couple of additional facts. A basic tune up was done when this first started happening, and the plugs and all the plug wires were replaced.

Either your coils have intermittent failing or your spark plugs could be warn out. Try pulling the coil pack off and look at it for white streaks indicating an arch from the coil. Also look for burn marks on the tips of the coils. If you dont notice those things then pull out a spark plug and check the spark gap to see if it's correct.

Sounds like bad plug wires to me, or spark plugs. With a high energy ignition system you have a condition where the spark will bounce around the inside of the distributor cap when wire are cracked or fouled with oil. If you have no distributor then the same applies when you have bad wires, the spark just can jump between the terminals on the coils etc.

Then again, it could be something else. But this is what I think.

Have you sprayed water on the engine in the past?

You may have gotten water inside the distributer cap causing the spark to the plugs to jump.

Remove the distributer cap and let it dry out inside for a couple hours.
