A link to the Jet slow speed wet sharpener... http://www.shop.com/op/~JET_Slow_Speed_Wet_Sharpener_Model_708015WCK-prod-33861777?buy=9
And one to the Rockler website, with the Tormek sharpening system.... http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?Offerings_ID=2398&TabSelect=Details
Both machines are slow speed wet grinders, with a leather strop wheel for polishing the blade edges. Both machines come with different optional packages to tailor the grinder to a specific type of grinding.
The Tormek, tho, is a better built machine. It has a few details which make it a better choice over the Jet machine. The most obvious one, is the ability to change the honing guide to the horizontal position, instead of the vertical, which is pictured in both links. The Tormek also comes with a basic guide, and an instructional video. By the way, Tormek is not exclusive to Rockler... that is... it isnt something manufactured by Rockler, its a brand they carry. The link I provided to the Jet sharpener, also has one to a Tormek... and it costs the same at the Woodcrafter's site, as it does at Rockler. Rockler is a good solid company, Ive done business with them many times over the years, and have always been satisfied with the quality of their products and service. The fact that Rockler carries the Tormek brand, and not the Jet, says a lot to me.
Ive bought and used a lot of industrial machines in my career... and it has been my experience that the Jet brand, makes lower quality 'knock-offs' of other manufacturer's products. They arent built quite as heavy, or the quality just isnt as good, etc.... but they are cheaper. Jet, by the way, is an import brand from Hong Kong... as is Grizzly, and Buffalo Tools, amusingly enough.
If you only need to sharpen something once in a while, then the Jet product will probably work for you...if you really want a quality sharpener tho, buy the Tormek.
Happy Shopping!
