i just installed my old hard drive, as a slave, which is divided into two partitions. i've formatted both partitions, and now i want to combine them into one partition. how would i go about doing this.

If you use winXP. Go to start > control panel > administrative tools > computer management > Disk Management
On the right hand panel you will see graphical representation of both of your hard disks and partitions on them. Identify the drive you want to join. right click on the partitions to get a popup menu, and delete the partitions, it will create a single partition. Then you can format it for use as a single drive.

If you have just formatted the partitions, then they are empty. You don't need to use Partition Magic or another utility, just repartition (FDISK) the slave drive, delete the two partitions, create a new single partition covering the entire slave drive and then format the drive again. This has less potential for problems later.
