People need to acknowledge that the rest of the world has gotten better since the first Dream Team. These internatinal tournaments have long stopped being a cakewalk for the US, or any other team for that matter.

Most of the teams playing in the World Championships played together for years, the USA team had only been playing together for a month before they began competing against the world teams. For a team that had spent so little time together as a team, they did very well.

Also, the international game differs from the NBA game in that it favors the perimeter game more than the inside game, it's doesn't play above the rim as much as the NBA, and teams play much better zone defenses than the NBA does. In many ways, Team USA has to learn a different game than what they're used to, and because of the great improvement of the rest of the world teams in recent years, the US can't just overpower other teams like they did in '92.

And, the USA didn't suck. They won the bronze and are still ranked #1 by FIBA. People need to get off this Team USA sucks/the international teams are scrubs jag, it's getting tired.

They are good, we just have high expectations as fans & the rest of the world has caught up to us. Nash, Ginobili, Nowitzki all these players are stars in their own country & have known there teams for years and are as close as brothers. I can compare this US Team to the 2004 LA Lakers. Shaq, Kobe, Malone & Payton but lost to a team concept to the Detroit Pistons. These Days it really is about the TEAM, SA Spurs, Miami Heat, Detroit Pistons all brought in players and won championships with those team concepts and the same is happening internationally.

it's because the NBA is getting quite far from the international basketball a lot, that's why getting to play amateur rules with a short preparation is a big factor compared to other countries that play in the same rules (international) all this time. i agree with the long term development team concept, plus, other NBA's 'elite' stars are not in the line-up.

1. Other teams play together all of the time (for the most part). They have a coheisiveness together. There are only a few NBA players added to their rosters. i.e. Yow Ming to China.
2. Our guys are showboating for the cameras and thusly we suck.

There is no I in team.

It all comes down to one word sir....

the jumpshot.

watch an NBA game and watch how often people miss 15-18 foot jumpshots. With bearly a hand in their face jumpshot.

In american, the game is played above the rim so you have leapers or rebounders. there is no premium on well rounded guys that that his jumpshots all day.

think about it.

Oh, and Coach K insisted they play only man to man against the pick and roll all game.

USA players are just active in the NBA. They got scared when they step outside the country. Here, I stressly criticised Wade and James, they are idiots, they can't shoot in the last game and they even missed many foul shots, how can they be the top leader in the NBA. They suck! Where is my Kobe.

I think it's cuz the US players are to busy showing for adverts and stuff, plus they don't know how to play as a team!
