I would wear a Paris weekend style dress with the main color of the team. I would have sleeves and it would be knee length. But it would accentuat my figure and show just the best cleavage. There is nothing worse than a girl who is trying to get all the football players to look her way.
Don't wear a wrap dress incase it falls off. Look at these sites:http://www.net-a-porter.com/cgi-bin/NETAPORTER.storefront
http://www.newport-news.com/
http://www.jcrew.com
www.marcjacobs.com
You can get ideas from these sites and then go to 2cnd hand shops, consignment shops or op shops or ask a friend if they have anything in their wardrobe they would like to sell on the cheap. Good luck

Hey Jen.you didn't say where you live or if the game you are attending is a High School or College one. Please don't wear anything "poofy" or pastel-colored....not appropriate for an almost Fall game of this importance. I've been to several of these events but that was back in the 60s; however, class and good taste never go out of style. The climate of your game will play a big role......SE or SW where it's likely to be very warm or Ne Nw or MW will be cooler. You also don't say how old you are or your body type...all important factors. Brown or the many hues thereof are lovely for a homecoming dance.....sage might be an option or navy blue. You don't want to show up looking like a "bridesmaid" so don't go for the "froo-froo" stuff, nor Goth or too extreme. I'd go for a "cocktail" type frock...scoop neck or even squared (depends on your body, etc.) not too low in the back..........velveteen is lovely for the Fall but again, the temperature plays an important role. You could do a crisp white blouse with a dark "flouncy" skirt......black or semi-dark hose with a great chunky high heeled pump (you'll be able to wear this a lot afterwards)....a dark colored tailored dress (ala Mollly Golightely in Breakfast for Tiffanys).....you can go younger & more modern with a short skirt (not too revealing, please) and a nifty top. Check out Seventeen Magazine if that fits your age group for ideas....if you are older look at the Fall fashion mags for options and then hit your local stores for "the look". Dress like a Lady and for comfort especially if you are a dancer (your date too). Have a wonderful time! This brings back some very pleasant memoried for me! :-)

Since it will be fall and football season, you should wear something in fall colors (orange, red, yellow, burgandy, brown, etc.). I wouldn't wear the pink or blue, just because that is more springy. Poofy isn't really Homecoming, that is more prom. Try to stick with something straight, maybe a ruffled hem and a few sparkles, but nothing pa-poof! Black is always ok. Cream colors and tans are pretty too.
I always wore short dresses to dances and homecomings, and long ones for prom. I hated it when girls wore expensive, long gowns for homecoming, but anymore that is what they are doing. So, anything from knee to floor length is fine. I personally am liking the ones that fall calf length or are angled so one side is just below the knee and the other side drapes down to above the ankle. Those are pretty.
You don't want to be too fancy, but you don't want to be underdressed. Ask your date what he is going to wear. If he's wearing a suit or tux, dress up a little more. If he's wearing khakis or dress slacks and a nice shirt, go a little less formal. Try to match each other so your pictures will look cute.
It sounds like the orange one might be ok to wear so you don't have to buy another one, especially since it is a fall color. If you have to buy a new one, look at places like JC Penneys, Sears, Goody's, Kohl's, Elder Beerman, (I don't know what you have in your area.) Bridal/Gown shops will be more expensive and more formal. You can even look at places like Fashion Bug, Maurices, DEB, and small boutiques in the mall. You can find a nice dress for $50-$100.
Good luck!

at our rinky-dink school, our homecoming dresses aren't really poofy...most girls get a dress that comes to about the knee and color really just depends on your taste, but try to stay away from white. For ex.- my dress is a chocolate brown, but my friend's dress is blue (kinda like the one Sharpei wears in High School Musical for "Bop to the Top") and my sister's dress is black with pink and white polka dots on the skirty part.
Try going to DEB. They usually have dresses for about $40-60, but they usually have some things on clearance.
If you really think that the dresses you have will work, then wear one of them!

My son went to homecoming last year for the first time. The two girls wore black cocktail type dresses, knee length or just above and very cute shoes. We have a store here called Deb and they have great dresses @ great prices the website is debshops.com and jcpenney.com had some nice dresses to but a little more expensive.

My daughter wore to her football homecoming, which was a walk down the 50 yard line with a football escort, she wore a black midi skirt, with a white blouse and a red blazer, or the blazer could be your school colors.

go with black and you can't go wrong. Do something that is classic and not trendy. Victoria's secret has a black dress that is really cute. Go under clothing, then dresses look for title "little black dress". It's the one that is actually called the little black dress with a ribbon around the waist. It costs $89 They also have cute shoes that you can pair with it on the same page. good luck. and have fun!!!
