Your operating system is the under lying software that makes your computer easier to use. IT is all of the icons and services that make the system user friendly.

Who is telling you that you need to upgrade and what justification are they giving you. IF you current system is meeting your needs there is no reason to upgrade from Windows 2000. IT is still used in many industry computers and works just fine.

The operating system is the version of Windows or (linux) that your computer is running. The only newer version of Windows than 2000 on the market at this time is Windows XP (either Home or Pro).

I would try out a liveCDrom as there are over 300, all FREE, and, you would find what you want, and get to keep it, without having to pay money for it, plus, without paying high 'upgrade' costs to build up the hardware.

The LiveCdrom boots in the CD, runs in a RAM disc. It is not upto 50X faster, until you actually install it on the hard drive by clicking on the 'Install' icon.
