Please help me witht his HW, most important about this is that I want to know how to do it not just the answers thnx

1) 56 3/4 pounds + 12 1/8 pounds

2) Micheal Jordan scored 2491 pts in 82 games in one season. find the average number of points scored per game. give your answer to 3 significant digits.

3) A snail can travel about 0.03 miles per hour. Convert this speed into feet per hour. Note that there are 5280 feet in 1 mile give your answer to 4 significant digits.

for the first you need to have the same denominators so to change the 4 in 3/4 to an 8 you need to multiply 3/4 by 2/2 so you get:
3/4*2/2=6/8 then plug that in so...
56 6/8+12 1/8= add the whole numbers first so 56+12=68, then the fractions 6/8+1/8=7/8 so...

56 6/8+12 1/8=68 7/8 pounds

On the second: to find the average take the total and devide by the number of games so 2491/82=30.3780487

to round to three significant digits you just use the first three numbers or 30.4 points

The third you just multiply so
0.03*5280=158.4 feet per hour

1. Change the 3/4 to 6/8 so you can add it to 1/8, then add the whole numbers:
68 7/8

2. To find tha averagem divide the total (2491) by the number of games (82). Three significant digits means 3 digits only, the first of which cannot be zero. The answer is 30.378048... but you can only have 3 digits so round to the nearest tenth: 30.4

3. Multiply 5280 by .03 because since feet are smaller than miles, you will need more of them. Then round to the fourth non-zero number. The answer is actually a 4 digit number anyway, so no rounding is needed.

1) you can convert them all to fractions (of an 8th) and then add them - OR you can add the whole numbers and convert the fraction bits to eighths and then add them.

2) the average (ie Mean) is the sum of the points divided by the number of the games

3) If you know how many feet are in a mile, you need to to say 1 mile is 5280 feet (in 1 hour) so therefore 0.3 mile is 0.3 X 5280 feet (in 1 hour). Don't forget to use the correct number of significant figures
