Are more concerned with assisting other countries, while ignoring the problems in their own country?

More often than not, it is the same problem!
Before seeking to help others, shouldn't we make sure our own people have help?

Because the government isn't there to help anyone. The government is there to help the government. Right now, most governments are influenced by huge multinational corporations which want to keep people poor and jobless so they can get cheap labor. By helping other countries to a minimum extent, we get their people vaccinated or fed just enough to get them to cities and fight each other for the bottom of the job market. They don't want to make our country's citizens better off because they have to pay us benefits and provide safe working conditions.
There is no separation between the government and the corporations anymore. The corporation is the new Church.
If you want change, keep yours in your pocket.

I don't mean to point the finger but you got tons of people like Bono from U2 talking government giving foreign. Lets face rockstars probably have a bigger influence on people then their own thoughts sometimes.
