That is the correct way to reset the oil light but its the speed
of depressing the gas pedal that sometimes takes, several
attempts to reset it.

Here's what I got off of the site called alldatapro.com

GM OIL LIFE SYSTEM - RESETTING
The GM Oil Life System calculates when to change the engine oil and the filter, based on the vehicle use. Whenever the oil is changed, the system must be reset so the next required oil changed can be calculated. If the oil is changed before the "CHANGE OIL" lamp is lit, use the following procedure:

Turn the ignition to "ON", with the engine off.
Slowly fully press and release the accelerator pedal 3 times within 5 seconds. The reset is complete when the chimes sound and the "CHANGE OIL" lamp goes out. If the lamp stays on and no chime is heard, repeat the reset procedure.
Turn the key to "OFF".
If the "CHANGE OIL" lamp comes back on when the vehicle is started, the engine oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure.

Hope this helps.

If this is a service light then do the gas pedal thing. If this is an oil pressure light then:. Check to make sure you have enough oil in the engine. Lift the hood pull the dip stick out and read it. If it is low add some oil.

Does the engine rattle? Does it knock?

If it does, then you have low or no oil pressure, don't drive it have it towed. If it does not rattle or knock see below...

Save yourself a lot of trouble and have a mechanic take a look at it. If you have an Aamco transmission shop near by they will look at it for FREE! They won't fix it for free, but they will take a look at it.

Oil pressure is nothing to mess with, you could ruin an engine real fast if you have no pressure.

Did you get your oil changed? Most places I take mine to reset it for me.
