no, they take a percentage of every dollar you put in, instead, take it to the bank, they will take your change and wont charge you to convert it to usable money

Coinstar takes a cut. Yes. Coinstar gets a percentage of what you give them. I've used it twice, and each time, I think they took about 8%. You'll see somewhere, on the machine, or in the instructions that walk you through, how much they're going to take. They don't mention it in the ads, but once you're there, they don't hide it. I consider it fair that they charge. I've done business with shadier folks than Coinstar. They ARE providing a service.

Because Coinstar charges you a percentage of what you put in....I think it is 11% now, meaning for every dollar of change you put it, 11 cents of it is Coinstar's.

You might want to consider asking your bank or credit union...they traditionally charge MUCH less than Coinstar. My credit union only charges 4%

Coinstar definitely works: It converts your loose change into solid dollars, gift cards, or e-certificates. While the "counting" of change is usually FREE, there is, however, a fee: In the U.S., the fee for coin counting service is 8.9 cents per dollar counted (9.8 cents Canada).

They charge you 9 cents on the dollar.
The best thing to do is to find one that allows you to exchange your change for an Amazon e-gift certificate or for songs on iTunes. In either of those cases, they DO NOT charge you the 9 cent commission.

They take 8 cents of every dollar you put in... It's a freakin ripoff.
If you have a bank account, they'll do it for free.
