Leaves are alternate, orbicular, green above with reddish veins, bases typically cordate. The flowers are very small and borne in racemes nearly year-round. The fruit is egg shaped, fleshy, hanging in long, grape like clusters, turning from greenish to red to purple with maturity. The large, orbicular leaves of the sea grape make it unlikely to be confused with any other south Florida tree."
