Typing tips?

Hello there once again, good Yahooers! I have another question, my dearies!

I am in Computer Discovery this year. I love the teacher, I love my classmates, and I love most of the class. There is one thing I dread hearing though...

"Please open MicroType and continue your lessons."

I hate to type homerow and whatnot. I type amazingly fast when I am looking at the keyboard and letting loose. However, we must keep our eyes off of the keyboard (VERY tempting when you forget where X is that moment) and keep our fingers on homerow. Anyway that I could improve my no-looky skills and my rate?

(As a side note, anyone know ways I could convince the teacher to download Mozilla? IE has caused me no end of grief!)

Try typing text from a book without looking. Do it slowly and "hover" your fingers over the keys until you remember exactly where that pesky "x" key is.

As for downloading Mozilla, your teacher probably cannot make any changes to the computer environment. That includes downloaded unapproved software off the Internet. Most companies won't let you install anything unless its been pre-approved.

What TNLadi said. I agree that Mozilla Firefox is a better browser: It's not so loaded with security holes. But your teacher can't do anything besides take a suggestion and present it to her superiors.

As for the typing, just type a lot until your fingers get used to where the keys are. I used to be one of the world's worst typists, until I discovered a number of forums and roleplaying games. Then I found with practice, I got a LOT better.

The ONLY best way is through PRACTICE. Just practice your lesson, type: aaa up to zzz.

First off, you may convince your teacher to use TWO browsers. Anyway, you may say that it could be use side-by-side with IE.

Second, you may tell the advantages of Mozilla Firefox: FASTER than IE, in downloading files and opening sites.

May I recommend that you put a small label dot over each letter on the key pad. Keep the numbers open till you have progressed to that level.

Once you get it in your head and not using your eyes you will be able to type even faster and more accurate.

My one year of typing class was the best thing I did in school. It is a skill that helped me take care of myself and family.

They didn't teach it to us early in school, and I had to take it voluntarily in high school.. so I was self-motivated to learn and really improve my type speed. It wasn't so easy, and sometimes I couldn't meet the goal in our assignments to make no more than 6 mistakes. I would always get one or two more mistakes, that would have me retyping the paper during lunch.

Use your brain to find the keys, go slow. Make no mistakes. At the end of the class you will have enough skill to increase your speed. Good luck!
