It was not Moses' staff but his brother Aaron's staff which was thrown down, became a snake and swallowed the staffs of the magicians. Jewish tradition hands down the names of Jannes and Jambres as being the Egyptian magicians who opposed Moses.

But there is no mention of their names in the Bible
