The only difference between the slim PS2 and the original is only a couple things that are minor. The other dude is right. The slimmer one is slower by like .10 of a megahert. Nothin really to notice a difference in gameplay. Also in the slimmer model you wont be able to add any mod chips to play your burn games and etc. Another difference is that theres no ext slot like in the original, say for the Final Fantacy harddrive. No slot because the biggest reason for the slot was to add the modem and the slimer PS2 has the broadband and dialup modem built in. I own a slim down PS2 and if your not worried about the other things, theres no reason why you wouldnt buy one. Its great. As of any bad news of the slim PS2, nope havent heard anything.

The slim PS2 is similar to the original with a few respects. The network adaptor (that was sold seperately) is now included which is a plus for online gaming. Unfortunately it does have some problems playing games(as another user listed) and does not support the Hard Drive released with Final Fantasy XI. About the only other thing was that early versions of the slim ps2 had an AC adaptor recall but that has been straightned out now.

ya, i do heard something bad abt the slim PS2. Is abt the cooler. I don think the new PS2 has a cooler inside and u need to purchase. Some ppl think that is not impt and left out the consequence of having it overheated.

Due to chip consolidation and redesign to facilitate a smaller, cheaper package, the slimline PSTwo has compatibility problems with some games for PS2 and PS1. The list is not long, but it does include such A-list titles as Hitman: Contracts (PS2) and Resident Evil 2 (PS1).

This does not apply to all PSTwo consoles, but any console with a model number SCPH-75000 or newer will have this problem.
