I say that's to early to early to tell she says she's pretty sure, what do you think? Is it possible to be able to tell at 12 1/2 weeks?

At 13 weeks the baby doesnt have developed genitals. So your doctor is very wrong in telling you that.

I don't think one can be quite so absolute. 13 weeks is indeed early for such an identification, but it's not impossible. However, at 16-18 weeks this would be an easier call...yet still tricky at times. Not all fetuses grow genitalia components at like rates, nor do they always allow the right position during a scan to see things clearly. Naturally, the more time that goes by, the easier it is. At 20 weeks it should be an easy call, regardless.

My friend who just gave birth to her second child (a boy) ten days ago used Early Gender Predictor Kit to tell if it was a boy or a girl, all she had to do was order the test and send off a blood sample of hers and they told her it was a boy. It's very expensive ($25 to order, $250 to register) but it was accurate.

Although it is easier to tell if its a boy rather than a girl, the sex of the baby is usually found out around the 20th week. Actually its kind of unusual that you had an ultrasound at 12 1/2 weeks...when I was pregnant with my son I had my 1st one at 8 weeks (my first OBGYN visit) then at 20 weeks (thats when I found out he was a boy)...then in my 3rd term (but that was because of a problem) but anyway, they told me any ultrasounds other than the 1st one and the 20 weeks one means theres a problem, but thats also just how my hospital did things. maybe your OBGYN has more advanced ultrasound machines than usual. I read in "what to expect when you're expecting" that you cant even tell the sex of the baby until about the 20th week. Anyway, congrats! Little boys are the best.

If you havent gotten that book yet, I would advise so. It answers about every question any new mom, or veteran mom for that matter may have.

Boys are usually easier to tell! Especially when it's obvious. If the hands are out of the way, the baby is in the right position and the umbilical cord is plainly not it, it's pretty easy. If you go in for another one later in your pregnancy, they should be able to confirm it. You might be farther along than thought. What did the tech measure the baby at?

I had to have two ultrasounds (for a different reason) when I was pregnant with my son. The first time he had his hands down there blocking the view. We knew it had to be a boy (you know how they are). Second time the tech was able to tell that it was a boy.

The person who did your ultrasound should not of said anything because it is IMPOSSIBLE to know. At only 12 and a half weeks the private parts are not even formed making it impossible to tell.

The earliest you can tell is 16 weeks..The person who did yours needs to go back to school because obviously he/she has no idea what they are talking about.

Also not may people even trust ultrasounds because they can be wrong. My mother was told with my little sister that she was having a boy and she had 4 ultrasounds and every person who did it was diffrent and said it was a boy and when my mom gave birth it was a girl.

My moms friend had a daughter 4 years ago and was told up to her 35th week of pregnancy she was having another boy and it turned out to be a girl.

My friend on a website I go on was told all threw out her pregnancy she was having a girl but when she gave birth it was a boy.

Ultrasounds are not always right which is why many people wait till they are 30 weeks then go get an ultrasound and if they are told the saem gender as the past few times they start to buy stuff...That is what I did.

Yes, sometimes they can tell that early if the baby is positoned just right, but the external organs look about the same at 12 weeks. So I would not invest in blue just yet. You should get another ultrasound at 20 to 22 weeks. I would wait until then to start buying pink or blue. Just start buying the unisex things like diapers, wipes, toys, etc for now.

not sure seems early to me to. I could not tell by ultrasound till 20 weeks with my son. If testicles and a penis showed up I'd say it's a BOY I've heard it's more common to be told it's a girl and it end up being a boy. When they say BOY they are seeing boy parts. It's possible 4 a boy to look like a girl early because he's not developed well yet or the legs are crossed and it looks like a girl split if the penis and testies are seen it's not a girl.

I would wait until 18-20 weeks for your next ultra sound before buying everything for a boy. Sometimes it can take until 15 weeks for the genitals to finish developing. Unfortunately I jsut lost a baby girl at 21 weeks and when she was born I had to ask the nurse if she was sure it was a girl because the clitoris was so pronounced.

First of all..CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR PREGNANCY.. Babies are a blessing!! It is very possible... BUT... I would not trust it 100%. I wanted a boy since my first pregnancy....(I've had 3).. On my second pregnancy (13 weeks) the ultrasound tech said it was a BOY.. I was soooo happy....and imagine when I had my second ultrasound ( 22 weeks) and a different tech told me the SAME.. thing. I started buying everything for boys..... AND.. you guessed it... it was a GIRL.! Don't get me wrong....I Love my two girls.....with all my heart... but I finally got my BOY.. the 3rd time....and NEVER again did I trust ultrasound techs ....They even printed me what looks like a wee wee...on the picture!! I hope yours is right!! GOOD LUCK!!

Too early... before 16 weeks, boys and girls have the same looking genitals... they both have "nubs"...on the boy, it turns into the p*nis... in a girl it turns into the cl*toris.

You cannot tell at 12 weeks. Sorry
