They can't because there are none.
Most will try to bring up the Iranian hostages but those are the ones illiterate to history.
Ronald Reagan when behind Carter's back and made an arms deal with the Iran/Contra in exchange for two things:
1. They would not release the hostages as long as Carter was president - this resulted in failure no matter what Carter did.
2. That the hostages would be released when Reagan became president.
This worked and resulted in Reagan beind able to paint Carter as weak and on Jan. 20th, 1980, the day Reagan was sworn into office, the hostages were released.
All of what I have stated was investigated by an independent council who made the above conclusions in his final report. Of which, was ironically not released until 1988 = Reagan was out of office.
There was also a long session of hearings around this where a Colonel named Oliver North publicly stated he would refuse to testify his president. North all but admitted he knew Reagan did but publicly said he would be his president's scape goat. North was convicted of 6 felonies for the Iran/Contra arms deal.

I can not add to the wrong things the old buzzard did while he was in office that the answerer's have already stated, but they named a helluva lot more than one. He has been a veritable traitor since he has been out of office so that makes me wonder what he did while in office that we do not even know. I'm one of those people that thinks he was the worst president of all time. One reason more wrongs can not be named is because he did nothing and by doing nothing you can't make a mistake.

President Carter imposed windfall profit taxes on oil companies because people complained they were making to much money, which is the only time in history the government actually directly effected the price of gas. Plus it was he who decided to sign over the Panama Canal. Way to think things through!!

He stabbed the Shah of Iran in the back and handed Iran to Ayatollah Khomeini in 1979. This emboldened the Islamic extremists and we are reaping the fruits thereof today. The Shah had been trying to modernize Iran and would even bar mullahs from being judges. That pissed the extremists off but Jimmy pressured the Shah to let the Ayatollah back in to Iran. He had left in the 60's offended at the modernization attempts of the Shah.

He was weak and indecisive; this allowed malevolent foreign powers to walk all over him resulting only in his ear to ear (nervous) smile. At one point, I remember that during one of his fireside chats, when all of the problems of the time were coming to a head at once, he actually told the American public: " Ah wont YEW tuh tail muh whut tuh dew!"
A president, especially the president of the most powerful nation on earth, (making him the most powerful man on earth) must not show weakness; especially to those he is charged with protecting! Asking the American people to tell him what to do was tantamount to cowardice in the face of the enemy!
Boo woosie president! Hooray beer!

students in Tehran, Iran and the Embassy employs and US Marines guards were held captive for 444 days and
Carter did nothing about it. That was a declaration of war
by Iran against the USA. That was a impeachable offense and the Congress did nothing about it.

Jimmy Carter was probably one of the worst presidents that we have ever had in recent history. Inflation was up to 15%. No one could afford to purchase a house or a car. Unemployment was at an all time high. Did you forget the hostages in the US Embassy in Iran. What about the fact that he gave away the Panama Canal - an amazing treasure that we no longer have. We were lucky we had that peanut farmer for only one term.

I'd like to add a point that might be missing to most people here in the us . Given the stand of america in the world as a great power it's actions and polices affects millions of people around the world .
President Carter , like president Clinton, are actively engaged in big projects especially in afrika and around the world, habitat for humanity (Carter), and with AIDs in afrika (Clinton),
Those kind of things give america alot of credit around the world and reflect to that part of the world a face of america that they wouldn't know amidst the killings in Iraq and other parts of the world involving amerika as the primary actor, and regulary circulated through the media in the middle east ,afrika and other parts of the world on daily basis.
While president Regan ranks among the top greatest presidents in Amerika , Carter and Clinton are widely admired in most parts of the world, their actions -not only after they left office- has made them close to the hearts of hundreds of millions of none -americans , . this byitself if not outweighs , would neutralize alot of bad effects to america indused by the polices of this administration.
President Carter and his organization is also involved in helping other nations resolving their political disputes , mediating between different factions and I think this also gives alot of credit to america's name around the world.
I think both presidents , are doing great service to their country ,even while they are out of office...you just don't hear from the media about those kind of things as much as you hear about M Lwsky scandal, or the hostage crisis... etc. It's the same media who anonimously kept mobilising the the public opinion for the Iraq war under false premises and kept them in the dark about basic facts in order not to underscore the case for the war;in this regard I'd mention that northen Iraq was out of Saddam's control after the 2nd Gulf war and militarily was protected by the British and Americans and had an idependent goverment, so how could any one imagine that a regime as weak as such and on that far to pose a threat to the us that amount to military action to be taken against it , whereas the same urgency never thought of with N. Korea who is much closer and clearly declared it's nuclear intentions
If some one says that Saddam was a threat to Israel , that's would be negociable . In the 2nd Gulf war he launched several missiles into Israel killing several people and injuring many others, so he was a threat to Israel , not to the us
About presidenrt Regan , he was charismtic and he benefited alot from his skills as an actor , he knew how to please the audience, the best example of this was the course of action he took in the hostage crisis .Probably his charisma was a factor in keeping him away from any liability in the Iran -contra scandal,
I'd argue that the rehetoric that is taking place right now against Iran is very similar to the pre-Iraq war episode in both cases the IEA stated that it didnt find evidence of nuclear bomb , one would mention that before the Iraq war 90 % or more of americans thougt that Iraq had WMD, (a false perception created by the media )
I think in both cases Iraq and Iran the real reasons for war are the same ...but who would dare to tell!!?

I like him , he seems to be a honest and decent man.
I didn't like it when he wouldn't let the USA participate in the Olympics because of Russia and Afghanistan.
Now look at what is going on.

You should study a little history... and pay attention to what that traitor has been saying about this country. He makes Benedict Arnold look like a patriot. As president he managed an economy that had both inflation and a near depression at the same time. Quite a feat, that. He also totally screwed up the Embassy in Iran. You don't remember that? And he wants to give President Bush advise on how to deal with Iran? What's his plan? Surrender to them? He's a joke, and should stick to pounding nails into Habitat homes.

Snow drew two “comparisons” between Carter and Bush:
1. Whereas Bush “snuck off” to visit Iraq, Carter “used to sneak off and fish on the weekends.”
2. “[U]nlike in the Carter years, where…you had the humiliation of hostages being taken in Iran,” in Bush’s case, “you’ve got the president who’s showing up in Baghdad and talking with the new government.”
