I inherited a previously used computer at work. The computer has a worm (I think thats the term). Whenever I attempt to use internet explorer, ads pop up and either delay whatever I was trying to do or lock explorer up. I have pop up blocker and virus protection. Its a minor inconvience, but an annoyance none the less. Is there an easy way for someone who knows very little about computers to fix it?

I,m no computer guru myself but what your describing sounds more like an ad ware problem. You can go to CNET,s download.com and download some free programs that will scan and remove these for you. I personally have 'Ad-Aware' and 'Spybot Search and Destroy' both of which you could find at that site or simply do a web search for them. Both are free program,s and do an excellent job of scanning and removing these type of problems from your computer. Good luck.

This is a computer you are still using at work? If so, they should have the original install disks, see if you can have them and use them to format a reinstall Windows. Just insert the CD before you restart and it should give you step by step instructions on what to do. Make sure to backup any data first.

Otherwise, download antivirus and antispyware and run what scans you can.

Need to clean your machine asap. Run Hijack This and click to fix anything that hijacks your page. Also download and run Adaware personal. Both are free on the net. Repeat this action every week. Its a jungle out there.
