I found my daugther crying and after a little digging I found out it was because of things she read on this website. I thought she was over-reacting, but when I read these questions, many containing profanity and explicit material that makes even a grown woman blush, I realized that even Yahoo isn't safe.

What can we do to remove such undesirable content from the internet, and from Yahoo? Perhaps a petition, or if some concerned parents were to attend the Yahoo shareholders meeting and read the board of directors some of the things posted on this site.

You said originally she was crying because people were "bashing" Jesus - surprisingly I can't find that question online any more.

If you go to that meeting they will laugh at you! You are responsible for what your FOURTEEN year old daughter does, not Yahoo! If she is crying she is VERY sheltered and you have failed as a mother - seriously when I was in ELEMENTARY school I knew there were christian, catholics, hindus etc - and not everyone believes in God.

Instead of blaming Yahoo, blame yourself - you aren't watching what she is doing - for all you know she would have been harassed by a pedophile! Looking within your own family walls instead of out in cyberworld to build a family - REAL WORLD

Don't blame Yahoo. You as the parent are responsible for what your children do on the computers. Don't assume that just because this is Yahoo, that it is safe. Yahoo has as much or more filfth than any other website. I would also strongly advise you to make sure that your child does not use Yahoo Messenger. That can really be dangerous. A lot of child molestors use chat rooms to entice young kids into secret encounters that turn out very badly for the child. Yahoo has very little control over this.

You can get a Parental block for explict language and other things. try going to Yahoo search settings--remember though its not just Yahoo, its people who decided to be gross and GET ON Yahoo. But there should be a setting--especially for images that says filter out contents. Or something. If you have any questions about this just email me--i know there are horrible stuff--even when i was young I REALLY regret seeing.

unfortuantely we have little control over what is allowed on certain web pages. These people get reported, booted and keep ocming back under different names. I don't know how old oyur daughter is but my girls are 10 and 13 and they are NEVER allowed to go to any websites without my express permission and direct adult supervision. I would NEVER allow them on Yahoo answers. I have my television and my computer password protected and neither one of my children are allowed to indiscriminately use the television or the computer. I am always in the room with them and monitoring them that they are only on sites I have put on their approved list or watching things that are approved. Eventually, they will be given more and more freedom with the television and internet but in the meantime, while I am monitoring, I am tryin to teach them discernment that they will be able to make wise decisions regarding what they expose themselves to. THey are well aware of whats out there but because they are mot mature enough emotionally to handle it or stay away from it, it is my responsibility to keep tabs on it.
Unfortunately there is too much interest and too much money in pornography and in order to perpetuate this, these things are going to be targeted at kids, the only way to keep them safe is to stop depending on those behind what is on television and the internet to care about our kids - it is up to us, the parent to be aware and control what our kids are being exposed to- beyond that, I pray that if more parents did this- controlled what their kids are exposed to - then taught them discernment- so they could learn to make good clean choices on their own, then pornography and the like wont have such a strong hold in the future

I agree this should be a site based on intelligence without some peoples ignorant remarks and I'm sure yahoo wanted the same thing.
Alot of them have been being baned lately and it has made some difference but there are more that haven't yet.
It's up to us to report them then yahoo will get ride of them.
It would be nice if yahoo had people monitoring the boards and booting people that caused trouble.

What you should do is be a responsible parent and do NOT let your kids on this site. It is your job as a parent to take care of your own children. It is not yahoo's, it is not mine, or anyone else responsibility! This is a site for adults, it clearly states that in the terms of service. So why are you allowing YOUR children to be here?
If your children have enough freedom to come to this site, then I would be willing to bet that they have been to much worse ones. From this mother of 3 daughters, you are a sad, pathetic, incompetent "mother"! Quit trying to put your responsibilities off on to other people.

Yahoo already has a policy against vulgar language and improper postings. there is a limit to what they can censor. the first time they censor the wrong person they would have a lawsuit on their hands. the Constitution gives citizens the right of free speech. unfortunately some people do not realize that along with rights comes responsibility.

The majority of the posters here realize that children also use yahoo answers. If you find the content offensive, there are software programs that you can install on your computer that will allow you to block your children's access to any site you desire.
It is responsible parenting to supervise your children's Internet usage.

Your 14yr old daughter needs to learn to respect that others have different religious beliefs. Your last post bummed me out but this one just ticks me off.

Raise your own children. Don't like the site? Set up a web nanny type program limiting your daughter to childrens sites. Or get rid of the computer.

How DARE you try to make everyone else raise your kids so that you don't have to? I didn't make you decide to have kids and I sure won't sit around censoring the planet so that YOUR kids never ever come into opinions that differ from your own.

Ohhh god another one of you. Ok lady it's not Yahoo's job to police your kids on the net. They provide a service like any service its the parents job to make sure that your daugther is not on any sites that you find offensive just because its offensive to you might not mean its offensive to others. You don't let your kids view porn right ?? so why let them on the net when you know there is stuff on here you don't want them looking at. Don't blame this on Yahoo..you should be there with your child while they are on the net. Yahoo is not there mother or father...you are there parents. Set up passwords on your computer that only allows the adults to use these sites..if they get on that site be there with them.
Don't be getting all mighty then thou just cus you don't watch your kids.
