Our neighbor likes to have parties in his front yard, complete with booming music that goes right through our walls, even though we live down the street! Neighbors ask him to turn it down - he won't.

He doesn't care that he is basically deciding how all of us live, and can't seem to understand that just turning down the bass would solve the problem - he says it's not his problem.

He even threatened another neighbor who asked him to turn it down. Multiple police calls later, he still doesn't get it. We've even put up sound barriers on the wall, trying to get some peace. He won't listen - what will help?

All of the above are good answers - the police and the code officer are the best ways to go. Retaliation is a no go. Way too many crazy folks these days. If the police will not deal with the problem start bothering your local government. My wife is a city council member and the local police report to them and the Mayor. When people call her at home she gets very motivated to make the people happy. Get onto your local government they can make things happen. Just keep going up the chain of command until you find someone who will make things happen. Don't be afraid to keep bugging them. Unlike your neighbor the city council or the mayor are unlikely to shoot you.

Unfortunately, people exist that absolutely refuse to cooperate with the status quo.

About 5 years ago I was forced to change residence b/c a neighbor was constantly harassing me. She not only harassed me, she also did things like flatten the tires on my car with a knife. Her boyfriend would get drunk and stand in the yard and yell obscenities into my open windows. The police were of course notified but nothing was ever done. And the landlord's "solution" was to break my lease and have me move, in spite of the fact that she not only did this to me but to several other neighbor's, including the neighbor that previously lived in my apartment. So, wish I had good news, but it seems that it really is a battle and apparently a civil battle. Short of taking the neighbor to civil court I don't see an easy solution. I wish you luck. Peace.

Call the police the next time he has a party. He's disturbing the peace in the neighborhood. Since the police aren't doing anything, keep calling. They'll get sick of the calls eventually & arrest your neighbor.

if the police refuse to do anything call your local congressman.or city councilor to help resolve this issue the law is specific and you may be able to take him to small claims court.. get a few of you together and present a good front with plenty of evidence police reports and video if you can get it.... I would call the chief of police and talk to him about the lack of concern from the police you have a right to enjoy your home with out his music.. does he own or rent? if he rents you can try the landlord..

I have the same problem and there is nothing you can do. I called the police a few times. They get tired of coming. Try talking to them but mine doesn't care.

I'm considering moving.

Keep calling the police until they show up. Or call code compliance they have meters that measure sound levels and they will issue him a citation if he exceeds them..
