What songs have really vivid language? Maybe a song that tells some type of story throught, and has figurative language in it. My only example for you is Strange Fruit by Billie Holiday. Any other songs?

How about this masterpiece by the great Leon Russell:

This Masquerade

Are we really happy here with this lonely game we play,
Looking for words to say?
Searching but not finding......understanding anywhere,
We're lost in this masquerade.

Both afraid to say we're just too far away
From being close together from the start.
We try to talk it over, but the words got in the way
We're lost inside this lonely game we play.

Thoughts of leaving disappear each time I see your eyes,
No matter how hard I try
To understand the reason why we carry on this way
We're lost in this masquerade.

Bob Dylan is one songwriter that comes to mind immediately whose work is easy to come by. His web site has lyrics posted for every song he's ever written: http://www.bobdylan.com/moderntimes

Here's just a few examples to check out---
A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall
Gates of Eden
On the Road Again (one of his humourous tunes, but with very vivid imagery)
My Back Pages
Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands

Commercial music tends to lack lyrical techniques such as figurative language, except for cliches and the like. Mass audiences tend to like the familiar.

But I'm sure that you will find some older songs that use figurative lyrics.
