Umm, I don't think you need to format a thumb drive. At least I didn't have to format mine.

You can format a thumb drive the same way you format a floppy disk. Right click on the drive, and select format. Remember, this will erase ALL information on the drive, though, and some drives have their own program file(s) loaded on them. My Lexar Jump Drive has a security program, and the Windows 98 program on it, so I would never format it.

you dont. thumb drives are plug and play for operating systems greater than win98 SE.
