How do you explain the difference between OPEN and OPEN UP?

Not much of one.

Open the jar.
Open up the jar.

Same thing right there. However:

She opened up. (She admitted it, she became less shy.)
She opened. (She opened the chest, she opened the door, etc.)

"open up" uses 'up" unnecessarily and is more of a slang expression, it does not convey any more information to say,"Open a bottle of beer" then "Open up a bottle of beer"

there is no difference. because when you open somthin your opening it up. so it means the same thing.
