i want to learn to do wall textures in my basement that im finishing. I have a general idea but id like to learn more, like tips & tricks. Can anyone send me to a "how to ..." or a "do it yourself" web site?

Ive done a lot of the various textures myself over the years, on ceilings and walls. When I do the "skip trowel, aka knock down" texture, I use a hopper gun to spray the texture on... wait just a bit, then hit the wet surface with a taping knife.

Some of the variables that will affect how the finished texture actually looks are: mixture density, how heavy it is applied with a hopper gun, the air to mud ratio on the hopper gun, the size of the hopper gun tip, and last but not least.... how long you let it dry, before hitting the finish with a trowel, or taping knife. The real key to success with any kind of textured finish, is CONSISTENCY.
