it's called ear tickling- they tell us what we think we want to hear and are so adept at being vague and manipulating with words that we don't even realize our questions have not really been answered- sort of like fortune tellers- it sounds so good when we hear it and apply it to our lives but let 20 other people hear the same thing and it's all about them too!
Believe it or not there are communication courses that teach them how to do this.

If you were ever a politician, you'd know. A straight, definitve answer will always be twisted out of context and into a sound bite used by the other side.

Because they can. Why don't we impose the death penalty for leaders who don't do their jobs? If we had this in place, I can gaurantee you that spoiled and wealthy morons like the Bush dynasty and others would deny having anything to do with politics.

We should have such severe penalties for mismanagement that our leaders will ensure they do a good job. Furthermore, our leaders should be common middle class citizens who are sincere about making a change. Wealth should have nothing to do with it.

Because there's no such thing as a 'yes' or 'no' question in politics; there are too many shades of gray. They don't ever want to be nailed down as to "Oh, this person always thinks this or always thinks that". It's just being smart, really.

Same reason they put unrelated items in just about every bill they right - they don't want to be accountable! They will speak about it at great lengths, but are great at dancing around it. They can made Michael Jackson look like a klutz.
