ok, what does the endometrium (or however it's spelled) look like when you shed it during your period?

It doesn't shed as a single piece or anything like that. It doesn't look like anything. It is just what makes up your menstrual flow. You will have blood - MAYBE you might notice some tissue being expelled, but more often it is blood clots that you see (usually small).

IT looks like heavy blood and sometimes a little clotty

It should be a little clumpy (I know that sounds gross). It's nothing to worry about!
