Maybe there are no Maggie Thatchers out there.
Condoleeza Rice is doing quite well.

A very good question. But I see most are spending time trying to defend the status qua instead of addressing the question. For there to be a woman president, there 1st have to be a woman running on a major party ticket. And since we Americans seem to only want two major parties. that is kind of tough. Seeing that no major party has, up to now, seen any woman as a strong enough contender to get the party nomination. If any and all candidates were allowed to run, as in the resent Iraqi election, maybe the results would be different. But in the system as it is. Each party wants to be that party running things. So, even the best man does not always get the nomination, just the mook the party thinks they can win with. Uncle Sam is very good at "do as I say do, not as I do"

There's that whole electoral process thing that candidates have to go through to become President. We are free relative to the body of laws which we have chosen to uphold based on our selection of representation. The problem is the parties and their best supporters essentially pick out who they think will do the best against the competition in the election. Not only has this ridiculous system kept out female presidential candidates, but it probably keeps out a good number of quality candidates in general . . .but that's just based on my assessment of how things have been for the last 20 years.

Because it takes time to create politcal connections and raise the millions and millions it takes to run for presidential office. Why do you think its called the good ole boy network. But women are starting to make their own connections and you may see a female candidate in the next 2 or 3 elections for president.

A woman is free to run for President. Americans are free to vote for or against her. The simple answer to your question is that no woman has yet won an election. I suspect this will change in the years to come.
As far as hearing about the candidates: it is the responsibility of each candidate to publicize his/her campaign as he/she sees fit. If the candidate doesn't purchase media attention, etc, it is difficult for the general public to be made aware of their existence.

Shirley Chisholm ran for president in the 70's and never made it past the primaries. Women clearly outnumber men in this country they don't vote for one of their own. Hiliary should run because she would win. However, she knowns that the country will go through a recession during the next presidential and she wants no part of it.

Trust me , its not the land of the free and its getting less so every year with the patriot act and Bush. But it is supposed to be. Women have been treated like second class citizens for years. Most of them are too dumb to realize it, they bust their *** and still think, well the man is the head of the household so let me pick up after his butt and do his laundry. Did you know every single fetus or unborn baby starts out female, that it is only with added hormones and chemicals produced by a female that a baby becomes male. Who is superior???MEN??? NOT!!!!!

The USA is all about achieving our ideals. We aren't there yet, but we've come a long way, and we have to keep trying.
And might I say that there is nothing wrong with Hillary. There really isn't.

Let's see, the people have not voted one in. That's not the government's fault.
By the way, America is about equal opportunity. Women have as much opportunity as any joe like you or me.
