The problem is that the NBA/NHL have TOO MANY teams in the playoffs. In no way shape or form should half of the teams in any sport make it to the post season.
NBA should mimic football. 6 teams, two byes. What is the advantage of have the best record in the league if you know you have to play the first week of the playoffs.
And No thank you. No more extra baseball. Include preseason and playoff and the world series winner will play 200 games. No more...please.

Baseball already has one round too many in the playoffs as it is. They should go back to two divisions in each league and get rid of the wild card spots.
The NBA and NHL seasons are tooooooooooooooooo long. By the time the finals get around I just don't care anymore. That's probably why the NHL is stuck on the Outdoor Life Network and the NBA is praying for the next Michael Jordan. Because their sports on their own are insufficient to entertain the general sports audience.

First, the NFL purely has 6 communities from each and every convention, no longer 8. the perfect 2 communities in each and every convention get an computerized bye into the 2nd around. 2nd, baseball has the longest season of any game as that's considered one of two North American game in a position to be performed for greater desirable than 2 consecutive days at a time, different than that feat could be greater good in basketball with the aid of no longer taking part in series against different communities. 162 video games is sufficient to return to a decision who the perfect 4 communities are. 0.33, do no longer trash the AL West. there have been some years the place that's been the main useful branch in baseball. because of the fact they have not got that 5th team of their branch, they could desire to play greater desirable video games against an AL significant or East opponent. Fourth, and ultimately, each and every North American expert game places their branch winners contained in the playoffs, no count their checklist. In soccer, they are ranked a million by 4, with the 5th and 6th place communities being Wild taking part in cards. In basketball, they are certain an actual-4 score in the event that they win between the three divisions of their convention. In hockey, the branch winners are given the perfect 3 seeds contained in the playoffs, with the subsequent 5 places being desperate by factors (wins are 2, added time and shootout losses count variety for a million, and regulation losses count variety for 0). the only distinction is that baseball is the only one with an unusual style of communities and can't make even divisions devoid of having persistent interleague video games (or a million NL and AL team might consistently be off for a series if that they had 15 communities in each and every league).

I totally agree with you...throw away the divisions and let the top 4 teams fight it out for the League Pennants, the the two left standing play in the World Series. 8 teams each league..sorry too many teams (this is baseball not NHL or NBA)

Yeah, then just like the NBA and NHL, there will be teams with below .500 records getting into the playoffs. It sure helped hockey attract more fans didn't it? The NBA better be careful or they could be in the same spot. What a dopey idea.

With such a long season, the top teams end up with the best records. So why drag out the playoff and have all your fans get bored like in the NBA/NHL?

Sorry but if we had 16 teams in the playoffs they would be playing the world series around christmas. Hockey and basketball are played indoors, so it doesnt matter how cold or hot it is out side. For example could you see the padres playing the yankees (or redsox) in the world series in the cold. Not going to work, but a good idea.

Due to the amount of games that would require, baseball would last too long. The players would be playing in the snow and they wouldn't get an off season before the spring starts. I like how it's set up. It makes the regular season more worthwhile.

Selig needed TV money so he took a chain saw to the playoff system.
Selig has told Oakland to build a new stadium. Why not impose a salary cap - oh, the anti-trust exemption.
