Spent a few weeks in Subic Bay when I was in the Marines back in the late 1980's.

The people were very nice (but very poor), you could buy anything (I mean anything) for $5, it rained a lot and the government sucked.

If you are heading that way, I'd go to S. Korea instead.

Manila has a lot of things to do.

I spent about 2 weeks there earlier this year and had a great time.

Their jeepos (I forget how to spell it) are colorful and fascinating. Their call girls are marvelous, I've heard. Their people are friendly, but I wish they had a higher standard of living so they wouldn't be expecting something from the tourists who pass through, after they do them a kindness. It hurts to think you have made a friend, and then find they expect money. Probably not their fault, but it hurts anyway.
