I've wondered this for many years but never found an answer so i guess i gave up.

I'm curious why at times it feels like you maybe going faster than you actually are? Ex. I'm in the passanger seat of my friends SUV going 80 MPH on the freeway, feels pretty normal. - Now going 80 MPH in my friends hatchback car is much lower to the ground and now 80 feels much faster then before in the SUV. Can someone please explain this to me?

-thanks

Edit: really looking for a reason as to why, i understand the lower the car the faster it feels like you're going, but i really want an answer as to why.

80 mph. is 80 mph. in any vehicle but the higher up you sit the slower it seems, get in a corvette and go 80 and it seems like 100, drive a go cart at 80 and it seems like 150, I really believe its an optical illusion.

im not sure, but i think it has something to do with how much you can see, if your up higher you are farther away from the ground so you can see farther and it looks like it is going slower
