Does anyone know if the species of bats that live in Wisconsin migrate to warmer areas in the winter? I have a few in my attic and am waiting for it to get colder so I patch the spaces but I don't want to do that if they're gonna hibernate up there for the winter.

Some hibernate and some leave. What you want to do is seal that attic up tight except for a couple of one way escape routes. Those are made with heavy screen shaped like a small funnel. The bats can fly out, but when they try to get back in , they encounter shart pointed wires. If you need help, seek out Mike Bakke, Wisconsin Bat Specialist.

Wait until they leave for the night, and just patch. Make sure there aren't any pups. They'll find a new home easily enough in the warm weather.
