Personally after my first visit to Jamaica I came back and sold $1000 worth of crap I had been carrying around forever. And I am a cheap selling yard sale person. I never considered myself materialistic but I found I was holding on to stuff I never used and that really had no real sentimental value. Jamaicans that I know are really down to earth, very simple and happy with that. Of course I know some who wish they had more but they make do with what they have now and if they get more they get more, if they don't they don;t. I personally would give up everything I have here in the US and live in Jamaica in a heartbeat.
