What a great reason to teach a child to read. Don't teach him to enrich his mind or his understanding of the world (or her, if we're being gender friendly); don't teach him to read so he can have a skill that will help him to be successful in pursuing a career and in other areas of life; don't teach him to read so he can more fully appreciate the value of the spoken word. Teach him to read so he can pass a stupid test.

That would have to be from the brilliant mind of George W. Bush.
