No. It's true that in most cases, pulling the barb out causes more damage than it did going in, but there are circumstances in his case that aren't the norm. Usually, a person is hit in the leg or arm. Most deaths from a barb like this, happen when the victim has been hit in the chest or abdomen. Problem being...a stingray barb has a venom gland. The longer it's in, the more venom is pumped in until the gland is empty (like a bee stinger). In a leg, you can wait for a surgeon. In your heart, you have very little chance of surviving whether you pull the barb or not. You can't leave a foreign object in your heart. It won't beat and you'll die. You can't leave a venemous barb in your heart either, so...I think he tried to do the only thing he could. It didn't work, but he certainly didn't do himself any more damage by removing it.

At this point it is impossible to say for sure. Likely he would have died within a few minutes if he hadn't pulled it out, since the spines are covered in poison and poison directly sent to the heart will kill very quickly. There is a very very very small chance that if he was rushed to the right hospital he might have survived but he was too far away from any hospitals. It is just too bad that he didn't get to say goodbye to his family.

That is a lie. I was watching the news about him yesterday and they were interviewing one of the camera men that was there when it happened and they said he didn't pull out the barb, it was a lie.
But if he had, not he couldn't have. Around the heart it a sac that is bled into. Once that sac was full of blood the heart was under to much pressure to beat. He probably died within a few minutes.

Without seeing an autopsy report, that's hard to say for certain...
However, in my live of work a hole in the heart is deadly and with the inclusion of venom in the wound that only compounds the situation. Also, he was over half an hour away from even the assistance of EMS, and even further from definitive care of a hospital.
In light of that, I'll go out on a limb and say it made no difference.

Chances are, that kind of trauma would have killed him even if he hadn't pulled the barb out. However, he would have stood a slim (very slim) chance of living had he left it in.

According to what i think is was very probable that he would have died anyways because the fact that the poison in the barb had already made contact with his blood vessels located in his hart. He would have lasted maybe 1 minute more...

No, b/c the barb hit his aorta which is the main artery to the heart. Not only that they were 30 min away from the nearest island not to mention the distance to the hospital.

I don't think he had a chance. As to the above comment, I would like to say that Steve did not get a chance to say goodbye to anyone, not even those there. Sounds like he died in less than a minute & died fighting to live. People struggling to live in critical moments are not thinking of dying, so they wouldn't say goodbye anyway. There is a mental resignation that one is probably going to die, that prompts the victim to say his goodbyes and for others to say goodbye to them too.

It was stated that the venom from the barb would have killed him whether or not he pulled it out.
