Anyone else miss the days before 24 hour tv when you could catch some really bad/good 60s/70s monster flick or some semi-obscure 70s movie? I do!

I think older sitcoms for the most part, tend to be funnier than today's.
Back in the 70s, sitcoms (mainly thanks to Norman Lear), started taking big chances for the 1st time, so lots of the humor was politically incorrect...but hilarious!

Remember the ABC 4:30 Movie & the After School Specials??
I also miss the original "In Search Of" w/ Leonard Nimoy! I loved the theme music.

What else do you miss on tv?...
I wish they'd put some of those old shows & After School deals on dvd.

Paul-

To be fair, some 70s sitcoms were notorious for sexual innuendo. Eg: 3's Company, among others.

Solly-

We still see EBS tests. What we *Don't* see anymore on tv:

"We are experiencing techincal difficulties. Please Stand By." (*generic music plays*)

I miss watching television that wasn't loaded with sexual double - ententes, suggestions, and 'situations'. I have children, and can't sit 'relax' and watch television with them anymore.

We recently rented some Gilligan's Island episodes - both the kids and the adults had a good laugh, the adults didn't feel like they were watching kiddie shows, and the kids felt all 'grown up'. AND... I didn't have to keep my hand on the clicker worrying about when the next innuendo would be made.

I'd like to see some of the old westerns again like Wagon Train, Gunsmoke, or Rawhide. Takes of the Old West was really good also. As for sitcoms, I would love to see All in the Family, Sanford and Son, WKRP in Cincinnati again.
Some others I miss: The Untouchables, The Streets of San Francisco, Hill Street Blues.

Fonz, I'm 46 and I remember ALL that stuff and more! I remember when I could get up at 5 or 5:30 in the morning in the mid 1970's and watch my all-time favorite show, "Sea Hunt", before I had to start thinking about what I was going to wear that day and getting ready to go to school. That was really awesome and nothing else could wake me up that early since! Nowadays (except for ONE local station here) all that's on at 5 in the morning is either goofy infomercials that make no sense or news that depresses the crap outta ya. Of course, if that show ever comes out on DVD and I could set my player to rock at 5:30 a.m., who knows???

I do miss the afterschool specials, and the 4:30 movie. I still watch the Dukes of Hazzard when I can get the TV away from the kids, even watch old Andy Griffith Reruns on occassion as well.

Okay very good question! Iam 35 and do you remember a show that was on Saturday Nights called "The Bob Wilkins Show?" He featured really low budget horror films. As a kid though I really enjoyed them. It was one of the great highlights of the weekend for me. I got to stay up late and be scared out of my mind! I also watched In Search Of but it was kind of weird not seeing Leonard Nemoy without pointy ears.

Let's not forget ULTRA-MAN!!! I just found that on DVD at Wal-mart. (I couldn't believe it.) Question: One of the saturday shows I've looked for but cannot find is The Children's Film Festival. It was a different little movie every saturday. Seems like most were English or British talking movies. Does anyone remember those??

I liked the 4:30 Movie! Especially during Godzilla week! :) But I miss the older movies (30s, 40s, 50s) on regular TV -- I don't have cable.

I also miss "straight action" cop shows like Starsky & Hutch, and Hawaii Five-0 (boy, am I showing my age or what?!?). I'm not really into procedurals like CSI or Law and Order.

Aloha From Down Unda, Fonzie T!
Thanks for the chance of an easy two!
Yeah, we can spend lots of time & energy disecting & reminising our past television offerings, but it's disturbing to realize a simple television schedule to include a normal 5 nights a week of 'The Late Show with David Letterman' is curtailed to a lousy two nights per week in favor of the retarded game show, 'Quizmania'! Hence, my answer for two points, is yes, I miss 'Late Nite with David Letterman' [NBC] reruns, as well as the rest of the week of 'The Late Show with David Letterman' [CBS]!
Oh well, at least we've got stuff like electrical power, running clean water & this Yahoo!Answers to fill the void! 8-)
Happy trails...k-den, M1/NSWMoke aka MikeWonAus
