The loss of Steve Irwin is a real tragedy - quite obviously for his family and friends but also for all those people who loved his unique style. He was totally dedicated to conservation and environmental matters and was one of the foremost authorities on dangerous animals.

It's ironic that he should be killed by an animal that is nicknamed the pussycat of the seas due to it's placid nature. Indeed, it was as far back as 1945 that the last Australian was killed by a stingray. These are animals that never go on the offensive and only become defensive when threatened. Had the injury been to any other part of Mr Irwin's body then he would have stood an excellent chance of survival.

I love dangerous animals myself and like many others, enjoyed his programmes. He will be sadly missed.

Yes, its sad, but with his risk-taking, it was inevitable. I always thought that his Devil-may-care behaviour with wild animals would get him killed one day, and look what happened: it did get him killed. What I still want to know is, what was his fascination with animal poop?
