You can write of two distinct federations of the eastern woodland Indians. One is the Iroquois Confederacy, consisting of the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca, and Tuscarora. Their governmental system was copied by the U.S. Government.

The second federation is the Five Civilized Tribes--the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole. Their history, too, is replete with cruelty and deprivations.
