The place where they shoot each individual scene is called a set, while the location of sets are in a studio. That is unless they shoot a scene "on location", in that case, the scene is shot in a pubic area somewhere around the world. Most often, to replicate the appearance of being on location without actually doing so (something which is often more cost efficent), a scene is shot in a lot. The lot is dressed up to look like the location they want and the scene can be shot there instead. There are multiple lots all located in a major or independent studio. Hope that helped!

Most places it's a movie studio, production studio, etc...
For some people, like Paris Hilton, it's her bedroom. (ha ha ha)

Well, a STUDIO is the factory where it happens, a PRODUCTION COMPANY is where the decisions get made & the money gets spent, a SOUNDSTAGE is the actual room where the actors act & the cameras roll, the EDITING ROOM is where the raw footage takes shape, and the VIEWER'S MIND is where it actually becomes something more than celluloid & light
