dies, or they read about it in the newspaper, they don't even think twice about it. I've never shed a tear for a person i don't even know, yet i have for a friend who died that i did know. you would have a sad life if you sit around crying over every single person that died, so i guess you just pick out the famous ones that you don't know.

"he did great things" what great things did he do? he had a great show on tv, very entertaining, and he was brave(stupid), insert your own adjective there, what was so great about working with dangerous animals?

i know of people doing this when dale earnhardt died, they were seeing 3's everywhere, because he drove the car # 3, i though that was so stupid. 3 is a common number, of course you're going to see it in different places.

sure i'd think twice if brittany spears died, but i wouldn't be sad, she's no different than any other nonfamous person, she's just incredibly talented with singing and beauty. i wouldn't be crying or losing sleep over it.

Yeah I am just as confused as you are...I've had family members that I didn't exactly know die and not even bat an eyelash...much less cry about some guy who was asking for it. People are pathetic and most people whine and cry for attention.

Because people feel close to them after hearing about them and seeing them a long time.

Steve Irwin DID do many great things. Yes, he may have been over the top, but he was like that because he was enthusiastic about what he loved. He spread the word about conservation and funded a zoo that's "like a country club for crocs". (Quoting a friend from a forum.) Actually, from that same forum, I know a couple people who actually would not be reptile keepers if it weren't for Steve Irwin.

The guy just died, okay? Be respectful. Have you ever heard of that saying, "If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all."?

What makes us sad is personal emotional attachment, the more we love and know the person the more we feel sad, In case of Steve Irwin I believe lots of people enjoy his animal program, when he is gone, there is something missing, but not all famous people death make us sad, if we don’t know them at all they will have no emotional impact.

Some people get attached to famous people because they read about them in the paper, see them on Tv and know so much about them that they become sort of like part of their family. Some just have such an impact that their passing is a tragedy.

I spose your referring to steve irwin, because he was an icon and did so many great things, and his death has affected many... I think many people feel more compassion for him becasue of the ammount of asxholes that have been posting really insensitrive things about his life and family..
It is the australian spirit that everyone comes together in a time of tragedy.. god rest his soul xxx

People can often feel they "know" celebrities, when in actual fact they know the persona that they chose to represent. Some celebrities do remind us of times in our lives and the passing of that makes us sad, e.g a childhood favourite. However, I do think that actual grieving for somebody that you never met is a very strange thing.

i will never forget the image of steve irwin talking to the camera while sharks were in a feeding frenzy all around him while he stood in the water...the guy was a crazy kook but he was fascinating, funny and very entertaining...i kind of felt one day his luck would run out the way he took risks dealing with wildlife but i would never have guessed it would take a stingray to be the culprit....my condolences to his friends and family....he was one of a kind and his legacy will continue as his shows run on animal planet
