Flies are experts at smelling death. Death of rats, poop, mice, etc. so that they can deposit eggs to live off the protein in the feces or decayed animal.
Because they are good at smelling death, they very well know and understand the smell of a dead fellow fly. A fly swatter smells of past crushed flies.
When you whip out that baby, the fly gets the message that it better run or else it'll be a part of the squish-o-rama club like its splattered forefathers that have found itself whooped by your fly swatter.
Clean your swatter with pinesol and that'll get rid of the miniscule deoxidized blood that is splatter and hence, scented on the tip.
