If you use an account set up through your company's intranet, then your IM history is available for manager's to read.

You would be surprised what monitoring software is available.
I've been in technical support management for many years, trust has always been foremost in my approach to staff managment but there are always those that abuse that trust. Evidence has to gathered when the need arises therefore products like websense and machine monitoring applications are used to gather such evidence. A monitoring application can record keystrokes or take screen snapshots, there's no way to hide from that.
One such application I have used appears in the task manager as svchost.exe in the services list, how many of those have you already got running? Know how to spot a fake one?
If a manager wants to monitor you then not only you will be monitored but you will be oblivious.

Anything goes on a company computer. Managers nearly always have administrative rights, and depending on how the network is set up, they may even see as you are sending IMs to someone.
The best bet is to adhere to company policy on computer use and you don't have to worry about such stuff.

Yes they can. If you have it setup to record im history. But they would have your profile to do that. So the only person really to have access is anyone that know your password and the network adminstator. It's for both yahoo and msn so you should be careful about when you talk or who you talk to.
I guess the only way you could avoid it is to use the web version for msn messenger but there is not much you could do for yahoo but to use an installed version of yahoo messenger.
But you would have to clear up your web cookies so that you can not be traced.
I hope this helps.

NEVER archive your IM's...double check the settings in your preferences of Yahoo Messenger...but I have to tell you, honey, many companies monitor what you do online with any number of stealth programs available to them. And they really do have the right, if you are IMing at work, on a work computer. They can access your email, too, not just your work email...Only play at home, to be safe.

Not just anyone can ready your history, however, if your boss wants it monitored by the IT admin, it can be done, but very rearly does that happen, I would be more concerened about any compainy email you send out, that is saved on a server that can be accessed by the IT admin, but for IMing, I wouldnt worry about it

You can change the settings so as the conversations are not saved if you are that worried. If you're the only person using the PC and only you have access to it then I wouldn't worry.

Many companies monitor all communications made from thier networks. Check your employee handbook to see what they say about it. If they are monitoring they will have let you know when they gave/updated the handbook.

yes they can,, but they wont.
no company allows you to pass out information that is confidential,, if u do then u will be questioned..
if u use abusing language in IM, there is a chance to be questioned,, although no one will tell you that they have read your IM history,,, it will be kept confidential, untill u have done something wrong,,,
so no to worry abt ur IM history,, just have fun,,
