The situation is grim...America's exploding debt is a ticking time-bomb. No one can say for sure what might trigger a crisis and when the bomb might explode, but this much is for sure: America's current level of borrowing is unsustainable.

America's debt crisis is reflected both in our exploding national debt and our astounding level of borrowing from foreigners, as measured in the current account trade deficit. Every day we fail to address these problems, we increase the chances that the country will be facing an economic crisis of major proportions. Yet few Americans are aware that anything is amiss. The mainstream media covers the issue intermittently, but because the debt increases incrementally, the issue lacks the sort of "crisis" banner that motivates editors and reporters.
The national debt: When President Bush took office in 2000, the projected surplus for the U.S. government for the next decade was approximately $5 trillion. By fiscal year 2005 the surplus was entirely gone and the annual domestic deficits were at record levels, somewhere in the range of $350-450 billion depending on whose estimates you use. This is the most radical reversal of government finances in U.S. history. Today the national debt is approximately $7.9 trillion, and growing by over a billion a day.

Nothing but bad news? Lets see

Unemployment is lower than even in the 90's considered the golden years.

Our military is finally being respected, even though not nearly as much as I would like.

We have the fastest growing GDP of any G8 nation this is even with the tax cuts.

OUr intelligence departments are getting a bit more funding, and as soon as we tear down the crap wall that keeps them from talkiung to each other for good we will prevent another 9/11 from happening. I do not know about you but I would perfer that they were able to talk to each other without a dang warrant about possible terror suspects.

We are finding out that Joe Wilson did indeed lie and he alone outed his wife. I hope they nail Colon Powell and Mr. Armitage too for causing this country such great loss both money wise and time wise. Oh while we are at it, make Fitz boy there pay back those millions he wasted for the last 3 years.

I definitely do not feel good about it with hateful people such as yourself saying anything bad about republicans in the most offensive way they can think of.

I am nervous about our political future with everyone blaming America for their own problems no matter how uninvolved we were in their appearance. Never mind that terrorism is happening worldwide on a massive scale, mainly done by radical Islamic fascists.

To those who would give me a thumbs down simply for my first and second statements: you are ignorant fools, and should be banned from Yahoo yourself for being hateful without reason. You are condemning me simply for my viewpoint.

No, not at all. I'm not trying to be pessimistic, but the way things are going now probably won't help. Theres major inflation, prices are on the rise and stock aren't gettin too good. America's debt is increasing. And America is involved with too many wars and 'little peace problems'.

America is embracing alternative energy as a nation.

America is pursuing scientific advances in medicine, space, energy, environment...at a staggering pace.

America is still the shining example of democracy for its people and the world.

America is doing the dirty work today, for its benefit and security and for the safety and prosperity of its friends and neighbors.

America has not and will not bend to the threat of despots, murderers and thieves. It is taking unpopular stances today, to ensure the security and survival of its people, culture and society tomorrow.

America is bringing democratic ideals to areas of the world that have had no experience with it. And it is doing this much faster than reasonable people could expect it would, even though the media and the rest of the world expected democracy to grow like weeds in the most unfertile plains for freedom....America will have the patience to liberate those who crave liberty.

America is opening up its borders (for better or worse) to new cultures, styles, languages, religions and people every day. In SPITE of a vociferous attack on our border and our way of life, America still embraces the world.

America has continued to find common ground and interest with its former allies, former enemies and new found friends. America has led when needed and supported when needed and always has placed the interest of the global community at the forefront of any diplomatic or military effort. The world without Saddam and the Taliban is a saner and safer world, despite the costs.

America has reached out to its worst enemies and loudest detractors to find mutually agreeable resolution to issues...even when those enemies and detractors threaten violence and warfare on a consistent basis.

America will freely elect congressmen and senators in two months, and a new president in two years and will continue valuing and enjoying democracy and capitalism and a free and vocal society for as long as people believe in the American way.

What matters most to Americans is that we are free and secure, and those who look for deficiencies and flaws in our nation must try VERY hard and concoct seriously OUTLANDISH stories and scenarios to make this nation appear anything less than the bastion of freedom and the greatest example of man's achievement and potential.

The world must fear those who seek to impose a selfish and myopic will upon the world. That fear should never reasonably be directed at the 50 states. Reason suggests that fighting for the freedom of man, for the freedom of expression and pursuit of one's life without the shackles of state or religious oppression is a worthy fight, and those who question that worth likely do NOT possess the fortitude or the inclination required to defend and advance their own freedom, and therefore can hardly be trusted to speak for a nation founded on an unquenchable thirst for liberty and for prosperity.

News is passing, faith and free will are not, and in that paradigm, America's future is brightest of all.

if all the jobs and industry with it stops going to china then the u.s can sustain herself indefinately and continue with present operations such as the middle east. If the jobs stop going to china the domestic political climate in the us will remain stable enough to succeed. With an industrial base that is asian --and the majority of jobs as asian - the tax base for such a military will crumble and so will the us. Get your politicians to keep jobs american -

America may or may not be salvageable. We'll know over the next 2.5 years if the damage done is fatal or not.
