I'm trying to expand my vocabulary, and I used to look up every word I did not understand, but this was so time consuming, and eventually I would forget the word's meaning. So lately I have been writing 5 words a day and thinking about it throughout the day. Is this a better way, or are there better ways?

I even have discovered that the terrific thank you to do it is to purely study each thing. The greater you study, the greater you study. in case you don't be attentive to a be conscious whilst interpreting, p.c.. up a dictionary and look it up. make certain you be attentive to a thank you to pronounce it, too, so as so which you could use it in speech besides as in writing. once you study, be conscious the countless forms of writing. test by making use of writing short memories or passages in those types. discover out what makes you rather like specific types or plots, and write them down. Refer back to that record whilst writing, so which you would be able to write in a fashion you will like. i might say that as quickly as interpreting, attempt to study greater books from a at the same time as in the past (including Jane Austen's books, or maybe Anya Seton--Katherine is a great novel), because of the fact they have a tendency to have greater "great" words than books placed in recent times. (besides the fact that books from now may well be an exceedingly sturdy source too). performs are sturdy, yet they don't seem to be the terrific for vocabulary or studying to place in writing, because of the fact they are conversing, and it is totally distinctive from novels, and because that variety of writing is so constrained. till, of direction, you opt to be a play write. Then, by making use of all skill, study a play. I additionally discover that crossword puzzles (fairly stressful ones, a minimum of) help with vocabulary. different be conscious video games, too. desire this facilitates. =]

That sounds good to me. You can also play games like scrabble or Lingo (avail at gsn.com)
or other word games like that.
Or you could simply spend time searching the web. That will do it too.

one word per day. don't overload yourself. you'll understand its meaning/usage more, and retain it longer, if you only have a single point of focus, rather than five words.
